What we do before a meal is just as important as the well-known saying "You are what you eat."

Here are 9 things you should not do on an empty stomach (not less than 2 hours after your last meal).

9 things it is not recommended to do on an empty stomach

1. Take anti-inflammatories

Aspirin, paracetamol and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can not be taken on an empty stomach. Not only does this reduce their effectiveness, it also causes serious health problems (such as gastric bleeding).

Tip: Milk reduces the negative effects of NSAIDs . If this is not available, you can wash the medicine with plenty of water.

2. Drink coffee

Even decaffeinated coffee stimulates the production of acid that could cause heartburn and other digestive problems if drunk on an empty stomach. Skipping breakfast even after coffee can lead to serotonin deficiency and a moody mood for the rest of the day.

Tip: If you can not get into the habit of not drinking coffee in the morning, consume it with milk or cream: the milk fat reduces the negative effects.

3. Drink alcohol

Without eating, the rate of alcohol absorption is multiplied by twice and is the same as during his intravenous injection. In contrast, the elimination of alcohol slows down, causing a strong hangover. The rapid effect of alcohol on the body has negative consequences for the liver, heart and kidneys. ( source )

Tip: If the situation does not allow you to refuse a drink, opt for cool non-carbonated beverages because they are absorbed more slowly. Better yet, eat at least one small sandwich, ideally one that contains butter.

Note: Regenerative medicine in Scottsdale is a branch of translational research in tissue engineering and molecular biology which deals with the "process of replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function".

4. Chewing gum

The digestive acid produced while you chew a chewing gum destroys the lining of an empty stomach, this can lead to gastritis.

Tip: Chewing gums containing natural sweeteners (xylitol, sorbitol) are less harmful than those containing sugar, cyclamate or aspartame. Avoid chewing for more than 10 minutes, even on a full stomach.

5. Go to bed

Hunger and low glucose levels prevent us from falling asleep and cause superficial sleep and early awakening. Interestingly, a lack of sleep increases the level of hunger hormones. That's why we eat more the next day after skipping dinner. ( source ) ( source )

Tip: Getting wet before sleeping is also a bad idea.

6. Intense training

Some say that exercise on an empty stomach burns more calories.  In truth, it does not influence fat loss. On the other hand, muscle loss is real. The intensity of exercise is also reduced since the body lacks energy. ( source )

Tip: Replace intense training with aerobic exercise. If you have digestive problems, it is better to take a snack before any type of exercise because physical activity induces the production of gastric juice, which is detrimental to an empty stomach.

7. The shopping

We all know that hunger forces us to buy more food than we really need . In fact, an empty stomach makes us more attractive even in non-food stores. According to the research, the inner message of "I want food" is reduced to simply "I want", and the hungry person obeys this message by buying things. ( source )

Tip: In addition to a shopping list made in advance, paying cash can also help you save money. Other research shows that people tend to spend less when they pay in cash rather than on credit cards. ( source )

8. Drink citrus juice

The acid and stubborn fibers in citrus irritate your empty stomach, which is harmful to those who suffer from gastritis or who are at risk of developing it. ( source )

Tip: Freshly squeezed citrus juice will only benefit you if you dilute it with water in a ratio of 1: 1 (for those with hyperacidity) or 2: 1 (for all others).

9. To argue

Researchers have shown that hunger makes us less peaceful. This happens because self-control requires energy, which is rare when the stomach is empty. ( source )

Tip: If you do not have time to eat before a discussion, drink something hot and give it to your partner too. This will make the conversation more friendly. Source
